Adaptive reuse building for net-zero carbon design.
RE:GROWTH is a community hub and centre for support designed to reflect the values and ambitions of the Cambridge Food Bank. Programs are laid out throughout the building to promote the mental, physical and social growth of visitors. The public-facing "storefront" programs include a public cafe, a community pantry, and a hole-in-the-wall market. From within the building, everyone can readily access the resource centre, the community kitchen and the multi-purpose rooms that host a multitude of cooking, aerobics and learning programs. The upper portion of the building services quiet spaces for offices and counselling programs. Private and collaborative spaces are integrated throughout to encourage mental decompression yet welcome socialization. Biophilic elements and wayfinding strategies are integrated for ease of use and inspire positive growth while assuring a sense of security and privacy.
Designed for future adaptive reuse, an expansive two-storey volume encourages future re-interpretations of space planning and program expansions. The existing building on-site houses the food bank's distribution centre and food storage.
